Guyana Amazon Warriors skipper Shimron Hetmyer said he is looking forward to leading the side in this year's Caribbean Premier League.

Earlier in August, the Guyana Amazon Warriors management appointed Hetmyer as their new captain ahead of the CPL 2022.

Hetmyer has been part of the Amazon Warriors setup since 2016 and was on the periphery before becoming a regular starter for the Guyana-based franchise in 2018.

He has featured for the side in 47 matches, racking up 1149 runs at a healthy strike rate of 131.76. His exploits with the willow include a memorable ton and eight half centuries.

During a virtual media interaction, the newly-appointed Guyana captain stated that he is 'excited' for the upcoming season which will be his first time leading a CPL team for the entirety of the tournament.

"I actually see it as a challenge and I relish challenges. I'm very excited, actually, it [captaincy] is something I was really looking forward to, to be honest. It's something that I could learn a lot from, in terms of managing my innings, how to look after the team and be a little bit more of a team player than just trying to basically hit sixes and fours.

I'm trying to do as much as I can in terms of being the captain and trying to help out as much as I can and just being there for the team," said Shimron Hetmyer in the virtual conference.
