Brydon Carse delivered a sensational performance in the first Test between England and New Zealand at Hagley Oval, Christchurch. His outstanding bowling made sure to help England gain a stronghold in the match, leaving the hosts struggling to keep up.

Carse was relentless in New Zealand’s second innings, starting with the dismissal of Devon Conway for just 8 runs. He then sent Rachin Ravindra, who has been in great form recently, back to the pavilion for 24 runs. Following that, he took the crucial wicket of Glenn Phillips for 19 runs, helping England restrict New Zealand to 155/6, leaving the hosts with a slim four-run lead.

On Day 4, Carse continued to wreak havoc on the New Zealand batting lineup. He trapped Nathan Smith LBW for 19 and later removed Matt Henry, also LBW, for 21 runs, completing his sixth wicket in the innings. This stellar bowling display completely disrupted New Zealand’s momentum and showcased Carse's skill as a match-winning bowler.

Carse didn’t stop there. In the 74th over, he dismissed the well-set Daryl Mitchell, who had scored a gritty 84 runs off 167 balls. Mitchell’s attempt at a big hit ended in the hands of Chris Woakes, ensuring Carse’s tenth wicket of the match. The umpires reviewed the delivery for a potential no-ball, but Carse was fine on the front foot, cementing his career-best figures of 6/42 in the innings.
