On Wednesday, October 15, the 91st edition of the Ranji Trophy kick-started with 38 teams squaring off against each other for BCCI's elite red-ball tournament in India. India star Sarfaraz Khan had a terrible start to the tournament as the right-handed batter registered a three-ball duck for Mumbai against Jammu and Kashmir. Interestingly, the most successful Ranji side decided to experiment with the playing XI in their opening match and promoted Sarfaraz at the top of the order.

Khan, surprisingly, walked to open the innings alongside Ayush Mhatre. Sarfaraz is a middle-order batter and has found success in batting in the middle. However, the move caught fans' attention as they were amused to see Sarfaraz open the innings, which got the internet talking.

BCCI's blunder gets Sarfaraz Khan trending

In the latest events, Inside sports reported that the BCCI had made a massive blunder and it was not Sarfaraz, who walked to bat, but it was his brother Musheer Khan, who registered a three-ball duck against Jammu and Kashmir.

The confusion erupted after BCCI's official scorecard displayed Sarfaraz's name as the opener alongside Ayush Mhatre. It led to a widespread confusion and no live telecast of the match acted as a catalyst.

The match is being played at the Sher-i-Kashmir Stadium and the limited reporting led to this massive blunder from the BCCI. In fact at the time of writing this article, Mumbai are 99/3 after lunch on day 1 and Sarfaraz is currently batting alongside Ajinkya Rahane in the middle.

The ongoing game is crucial for Khan as he is eyeing a comeback to the Indian team. Sarfaraz Khan was touted to feature in the recently concluded Test series against West Indies, but the selectors deemed him unfit following his latest injury. However, Khan posted a video hinting at his full fitness, which sparked a debate on the internet with people reacting that Agarkar and Sarfaraz are not on the same page.
