Hobart Hurricanes pummeled Melbourne Renegades with a clinical run-chase to register their sixth successive win this BBL 2024-25 season. Matthew Wade and Tim David overcame late nerves by compounding quick runs in match number 34 of the tournament as played out at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart.

Here’s the timeline of how Hurricanes vs Renegades panned out in Hobart:

Hurricanes vs Renegades Highlights: Riley Meredith Works Over Renegades Top-Order

Hobart Hurricanes new ball paceman Riley Meredith levelled Melbourne Renegades top order early in the game with the wickets of both openers, Josh Brown and Marcus Harris. Dangerman Jake Fraser-McGurk at number three also walked back to the dugout courtesy of a runout as the Renegades slipped to 23-3 in five overs.

Tim Seifert resurrected Renegades’ faltering innings to some extent with Jacob Bethell by sharing a swift 46-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Seifert’s resistance was eventually halted by Mitchell Owen for a 23-ball 24 as the visitors reached 69-4 around 11 overs.

Hurricanes vs Renegades Highlights: Jacob Bethell’s 87 Raises Renegades

Jacob Bethell at number four counterattacked for the Melbourne Renegades by composing 87 quick runs from just 50 deliveries. Launching eight boundaries and four sixes in his calculated knock, Bethell shared crucial partnerships with Tim Seifert and captain Will Sutherland (15 off 14) to take the Renegades past the 100-run mark, before setting them up with a competitive 154-7 from 20 overs with some late belligerence.

For the Hurricanes, Riley Meredith snapped Sutherland to pick up his third wicket of the innings, while Nathan Ellis also picked up a wicket in the form of Harry Dixon during the slog overs.

Hurricanes vs Renegades Highlights: Bethell, O'Neill Seal Early Momentum

Melbourne Renegades speedster Fergus O'Neill cleaned up Hobart Hurricanes opener Caleb Jewell for just a run in the third over of the run-chase. Mitchell Owen clattered two boundaries and two sixes in his fiery 14-ball 24-run start before a mix-up with partner Charlie Wakim accounted for his downfall.

Jacob Bethell and Callum Stow also claimed the prized-scalps of Wakim and Jake Doran respectively as hosts Hurricanes slipped to 63-4 around the halfway stage of the innings.

Hurricanes vs Renegades Highlights: Nikhil Chaudhary, Tim David Compound Quick Late Runs

Nikhil Chaudhary at number four made 36 off 27 while Matthew Wade took the attack to Fergus O'Neill in his 23-ball 36 as the two blistering ball-strikers eased up the asking equation for the Hurricanes.

After Chaudhary and Wade were dismissed by Tom Rogers and Jacob Bethell respectively, unbeaten Tim David sealed off the chase through his 15-ball 24*. With Hobart Hurricanes taking the game by four wickets and two balls to spare, the outcome also marked their sixth straight win of the BBL 2024-25 season.
