In a significant development, Bangladesh have won the toss and elected to bowl first in their T20 World Cup 2024 opener against Sri Lanka. 

During the toss, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto revealed that Taskin Ahmed is fit to play, saying they would bowl hoping for some early movement with the new ball. He said, 

"We would like to bowl first, expecting some seam and swing early on. Shoriful is fit to play and did well in the practice. It is important for all top order to score runs as it gives the momentum. The pitch looks dry to me, with the new ball, I am expecting some movement."

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka have made an interesting call, bringing Dhananjaya de Silva in for dependable batter Sadeera Samarawickrama. Sri Lankan captain Wanindu Hasaranga stated,

"Actually, after the last game, we don't have anything in mind. Especially in the first six overs, we will look and then try. We are going with two genuine fast bowlers and two spinners with two fast-bowling all-rounders. It depends on the bowlers. If the spinners are bowling, I'll bat. Let's see."
