The Chennai Super Kings had a terrible time in IPL 2025. From the very beginning of the tournament, they struggled to get their composition right and kept losing matches. The lack of  performance from the expected candidates and the failure of the bigger names, resulted in the team's ill fate being decided pretty early.

Mhatre's Impact On CSK's Batting In IPL 2025

However, towards the end of the tournament, some of the injury replacements made the team look better and it looked like the franchise is composing a team for the next season. One of the brighter spots towards the end of the tournament for CSK was the young opening batter, Ayush Mhatre.

Notably, Mhatre came into the CSK squad as a replacement of the injured skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad and completely changed the style of batting of the team. His aggressive intent provided CSK with the much needed positivity at the top of the order that they lacked through out the tournament. He played in 7 matches, scored 240 runs in them at a strike rate of 188.97.

Mhatre Fails To Fire In First ODI

Looking at him batting, the cricket experts praised his talent and temperament. However, in the ongoing 50 overs series against England, the young batter has failed to live upto the expectations in the first match.

In the game at the County Ground in Hove, Mhatre managed to score only 21 runs off 30 deliveries. Notably, Mhatre is leading this U19 side. The Indian team bowled first in this match and after a brilliant show in the ball had the task of chasing down 175 runs in 50 overs.

IPL's 14-year-old sensation, Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Ayush Mhatre opened the innings for India. While Vaibhav looked fluent at the crease, Mhatre struggled to get off the block. Although, he hit four boundaries during his stay, the flamboyance from his IPL knocks was missing.

But he looks a very able batter and once expect him to soon regain form in the series. Notably, India managed to win the series and take a 1-0 lead as they chased down the target with six wickets in hand and 26 overs to spare.
