Asif Afridi becomes oldest bowler to take fifer on Test debut

Left-arm spin bowler Asif Afridi made his debut in Test cricket as Pakistan replaced Hasan Ali with him for the second match against South Africa in Rawalpindi. The decision proved to be a masterstroke as the veteran cricketer dismantled the Proteas with a magnificent spell of spin bowling.

He began his onslaught by dismissing Tony de Zorzi and went on to get rid of Dewald Brevis, Kyle Verrynne, Tristan Stubbs and Simon Harmer. Thus, he brought up a sensational fifer on his maiden Test match, becoming the oldest debutant to do so. Asif Afridi broke the 92-year-old record by Charles Marriott, who attained a similar feat way back in 1933.

Riding on Asif Afridi's sublime spell, Pakistan have claimed the driving seat in the second Test against South Africa. Despite Tristan Stubbs and Tony de Zorzi's valiant fifties, the Proteas are on the verge of conceding a heavy lead to their opponents, placed at 235 for eight, with Senuran Muthusamy and Keshav Maharaj batting on 27* and 0*, respectively.
