Aiden Markram has not only been a brilliant servant for the South African Test team in 2025, but has also turned out to be the safest fielder on the team, and it was proven during the second India vs South Africa Test match in Guwahati. Markram was everywhere on the field, and every ball that touched his palm got stuck in his hands.

In the Guwahati Test match, Markram plucked five catches in India’s first innings, and to further dent the opponent, he grabbed three more in the second innings and in the process, he joined India great, Ajinkya Rahane in an elusive catching list.

With his 8th catch of the match, Markram joined Rahane as the player with the most catches taken in a single Test match. While Markram achieved this feat against India and has a chance to surpass him, Rahane bagged the record while playing against Sri Lanka in 2015.

Markram surpassed seven other players who were tied at second place with seven catches to their name. This catching efficiency depicted the safe pair of hands the Proteas star possesses.

KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, and Kuldeep Yadav became his victims in the first innings, while Sudharsan, Dhruv Jurel and Rishabh Pant were dismissed by his safe pair of hands.

What makes Markram an efficient catcher?

The Proteas star is a naturally gifted athlete, and thus, it allows him to cover the ground easily, allowing him to take difficult catches that is harder for other players.

He also has a good catching technique, which includes having a still head and maintaining a good body posture and it allows him to come underneath the ball and settle in before going for the catch, and thus, his efficiency remains high.
