In the ever-evolving world of cricket, it isn't just the players who showcase innovation. At the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, the groundstaff has grabbed headlines for deploying an inventive technique using halogen lights paired with fans to combat the soggy outfield that has delayed the start of the Super Fours Asia Cup 2023 clash between arch-rivals, India and Pakistan on Monday.

The high-stakes clash, eagerly anticipated by fans and players alike has faced a delay due to an unyielding wet outfield. Initially, the groundsmen tried to address the issue on Sunday with various methods, including a makeshift fan but despite their best efforts play couldn’t resume on Sunday.

However, it’s their use of halogen lights on Monday that has captured the attention of spectators and netizens, turning into a sensation on social media. Images of the halogen lights and fans working in tandem to dry the pitch quickly went viral, with fans praising the creative approach and dedication of the Sri Lanka ground staff.

Their persistent efforts were geared towards ensuring the match could resume, given the significant interest surrounding the India-Pakistan clash.

Meanwhile, the on-field action, prior to the rain interruption, saw India's opening duo, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, weaving a stunning century partnership. Their brilliant batting display ensured India was placed at a promising 147/2 in 24.1 overs.

Both batters got dismissed in quick succession which left Virat Kohli and KL Rahul at the crease before rain played spoilsport. For now, supporters from both teams will be hoping the rain gods spare the match.
