Heinrich Klaasen blasted a 27-ball 53* against Delhi Capitals in match number 40 of the ongoing IPL 2023 season. The burly South African batter capitalised on the start provided by SRH opener Abhishek Sharma at the top, who mopped the floor with the Capitals through his attacking 67.

Klaasen’s knock marked his first fifty-plus score of the season, as the ‘Orange Army’ snapped their three-game losing streak in front of a packed Delhi crowd.

Klaasen says Delhi wicket spun a bit

Heinrich Klaasen, who had a season best of a mere 36 before this game, scorched the Capitals attack with an attacking 27-ball 53*. His innings charged up the SRH total to 197-6, one which proved to be nine runs better than the hosts in a must-win contest.

After the match, he expressed satisfaction over his notable innings, and praised the team effort for their emphatic win against the Capitals. He also hoped that his side carries this winning momentum in their upcoming games as well.

“About time I did something in IPL, pleased about it. Was a good team effort, glad the batters played with freedom, good signs to come. We got the players to do it up front, hopefully we can take this result and form in the next game,”

Talking about his own effort, he said that he had to adapt according to the spin. He also praised SRH young opener Abhishek Sharma, for setting up a solid foundation for his side at the top of the order.

“I have to fit in, you have to adapt, can't be one dimensional. The wicket was starting to hold a bit more, and it also spun a bit. He (Abhishek Sharma) has been bowling well in the nets, asked him to try and spin the ball as much he can.”

Heinrich Klaasen will now reprise his role for the Aiden Markram-led side in their upcoming game against defending champions Gujarat Titans on May 2.
