Imran Tahir, the legend of the shortest format of the game, has once again proved his class in the ongoing CPL 2025. The Caribbean Premier League's Guyana Amazon Warriors' captain, Imran Tahir, bagged a magical 5-for in his last clash on August 23, against Antigua & Barbuda Falcons, to craft an 83-run defeat for them.

Imran Tahir rolled back the years as the veteran leg-spinner ripped through the middle and lower order with guile, variation, and sheer accuracy, leaving the Falcons clueless in their chase of 212.

How Tahir's Sensational Spell Crippled Antigua's Chase

Tahir struck with his very first ball, deceiving Shakib Al Hasan with a clever googly that beat the bat and gave Shai Hope an easy stumping. Just four balls later, he dismissed rival skipper Imad Wasim, luring him into a lofted drive that landed safely in Shamar Joseph’s hands.

The collapse only deepened when Tahir trapped Shamar Springer plumb in front with a flipper that skidded straight onto the stumps. Usama Mir was cleaned up by a quicker leg-break, before Obed McCoy’s stumps went rattling to complete Tahir’s fifer, a spell that turned the contest into a one-sided affair.

Imran Tahir’s 5/21 not only sealed the game for Guyana Amazon Warriors but also etched his name in the franchise’s record books.

Tahir's figures now sit among the best-ever spells for GAW in CPL history, alongside Sohail Tanvir’s stunning 3/5 in 2017 and David Wiese’s 5/30 in 2015.

Guyana Dominates Antigua With The Ball

Earlier, after asking to bat first, Guyana posted a daunting 211/3 on the board. Shai Hope anchored the innings with a classy 82 off 54 balls, while Shimron Hetmyer’s blistering 65 from just 26 deliveries and Romario Shepherd’s unbeaten 25 off 8 balls provided the finishing touch to set the Falcons a steep chase.

In reply, Antigua looked promising in the power play, but once Tahir came into the attack, the game turned decisively. With support from Shepherd and Motie with the ball, the Falcons folded for 128 in 15.2 overs, handing Guyana a dominant victory as Tahir led from the front, justifying his role as the captain of the team. So far, in CPL 2025, Tahir has played only two matches and scalped 7 wickets from them.
