23.75 crore, this was the price paid by the Kolkata Knight Riders to buy back Venkatesh Iyer in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. Experts believed that KKR retained the "wrong Iyer", as Shreyas was enjoying his life with the Punjab Kings. Venkatesh, prior to the SRH match played three matches and failed in every game.
However, then came SRH and Venkatesh finally revealed why KKR paid this much amount to buy him back.
How Venkatesh assaulted SRH bowlers
For a new batter, this pitch was not easy to bat at all, and Venkatesh felt that when he took his time to get settle in. At this stage, Rinku Singh was going berserk and he allowed his partner to take the attacking responsibility.
However, once he settled in, there was no looking back. At the start of the 17th over, he was 20 off 16 and was looking scratchy, but then he unleashed beast mode, and Simarjeet Singh became his first victim as he slammed him for two boundaries.
Then the over came for him as he went berserk against SRH captain, Pat Cummins. Cummins, by no means is a death bowler and Venkatesh exploited it. He took 21 runs off the Cummins over and completed his fifty in just 25 balls. So, from 20 off 16, he took just 9 balls to score another 30.
Another calculative assault came in the Harshal Patel over, when he smacked 10 runs in the first two balls, and at the point of his dismissal, Venkatesh had slammed 60 off 29 balls at at strike-rate of more than 200. So, from 20 off 16, Venkatesh played a special knock and justified why KKR paid such a hefty amount for him.
