Jonny Bairstow was a revered name in English Test set up even a couple of years back. However, his career did not age well after that, and now the batter finds himself outside the English scheme of things in the longest format of the game.
India's Destructor Lost In Obliteration
Notably, India is currently touring England for a five-match Test series and will play their next game at Edgbaston in Birmingham. This opposition and this venue must automatically evoke sweet memories in Bairstow's mind. The last time India played at the venue against England, Bairstow scored a twin century and remained unbeaten on 114 in the second innings, guiding his team to their highest-ever successful chase in Test cricket.
However, after this match, Bairstow began struggling with his form, and then injuries caught up with him. Soon, the lack of consistency saw him removed from the team.
Bairstow Bowling Off-spin: Hint For England?
However, players like Bairstow always dream of competing at the most challenging stage. In the latest County clash between Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire, the English wicket-keeper batter gave hints of him adapting to a different role. His showcasing of new skills could be an indirect audition for Test cricket. In a video posted by Yorkshire on their X handle, it could be seen that the English wicket keeper batter is bowling off-spin.
Notably, in a run-fest that was heading towards a docile draw, Bairstow rolled his arms over with the ball in hand. He bowled the last over of the game and conceded six runs off it as Nottinghamshire ended their second innings at 148/1.
Before, the Yorkshire team scored 510 runs in their first innings, led by Finlay Bean's 224 off 489 runs. The skipper of Yorkshire for the current County season scored 41 runs off 80 deliveries. This was in reply to Nottinghamshire's 487 all-out in their first dig at the game.
Notably, Jonny Bairstow represented Mumbai Indians in the latest edition of IPL. He came in as an injury replacement and played a couple of matches, scoring 85 runs in them at a strike rate of 184.78
Ishan Kishan And Mohamamad Abbas Show On-field Camraderie
This match saw another rare event. As Ishan Kishan and Mohammad Abbas represented Nottinghamshire in the game, Indian and Pakistani players were seen sharing the same cricket field after the cross-country tensions.
However, nothing unprofessional was observed on the ground as the two players gave their full attention to doing their best for the team they represented. Even a social media post by Abbas with Ishan has indicated the professionalism of both individuals.
