In a significant development, team India captain Rohit Sharma set an unwanted record by losing 10 consecutive tosses in One Day Internationals (ODIs). Previously, on last Sunday, team India set a new record of 12th consecutive toss losses in ODIs, beating Netherlands’ who held the previous record with 11 consecutive toss losses.
Rohit's toss losing streak began in the 2023 World Cup Final in Ahmedabad and since then, the 37-year-old has now completed ten consecutive losses in the coin toss, during India's last group match against New Zealand in Dubai. As New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner called the right side of the coin, he asked India to bat on what looked like a hot and dry afternoon in Dubai.
However, with Rohit Sharma being on the receiving end for the 10th successive time, the Indian skipper is now placed third in the list of most consecutive tosses lost by a captain in ODIs.

Table - Most Consecutive Tosses Lost By A Captain In ODIs.
Former West Indies captain Brian Lara is at the top of the list with record 12 straight toss losses between October 1998 and May 1999. Netherlands’ Peter Borren finds himself second in the list with 11 consecutive toss losses between March 2011 and August 2013.
Tosses Win Matches?
In the game of cricket, toss plays a crucial role in determining how the game will go, giving the toss winning captain an opportunity of deciding to bat or bowl first. However, the outcome of a toss doesn't always give us the clear picture of the game, but it gives a strategic advantage to the winning side based on weather conditions and the pitch of the playing venue.
Coming to the match, India is taking on New Zealand in their last group stage match in the ongoing Champions Trophy. Both the teams have won each of their first two matches and will be looking to continue their winning form ahead of the Semi-Finals later next week.
Team India has been asked to bat first as they look to give themselves a positive start with the bat, while New Zealand, who is known for their dominance over India in ICC ODI events, look to challenge on what has been an unbeaten run for the Men In Blue in ODIs this year.
