Andre Russell, an 11-year KKR veteran, is all set to be released, as reported by ESPN Cricinfo.

KKR retained him for ₹12 crore last year before the mega auction, but he had an underwhelming season (167 runs, 8 wickets). 

The 37-year-old's role as a bowler has also diminished to a large extent. Hence, Russell's era is likely to end at the Kolkata Knight Riders.

That is surely a BOLD call!

IPL 2026 Retentions: Venky not yet done with KKR? 🙅‍♀️

Venkatesh Iyer might be released at the IPL 2026 retention deadline, but his journey with KKR is far from over.  Off-loading Iyer for ₹23.75 crores makes sense without a doubt. 

However, after a season where he couldn't manage to score a total of 200 runs, the all-rounder's market has dropped significantly.

Hence, the likelihood of KKR buying him back at a much lower price in the IPL 2026 mini-auction seems highly realistic.

That could be a sound decision by KKR management, both strategically and economically.

IPL 2026 Retentions live updates: MI still have faith in Will Jacks 🫡

Fresh reports also suggest that Will Jacks is likely to be retained by the Mumbai Indians.

Who can forget the iconic picture of Akash Ambani's handshake with RCB management after the latter opted out of the bidding war for Jacks during mega-auction. 😅

It turned out to be a perfect swap as Tim David went to RCB and Will Jacks landed at MI.

Will Jacks is currently worth ₹5.25 crore and had a decent season in IPL 2025, where he scored 233 runs with a 135.47 strike rate.

As per latest updates from Cricbuzz, Josh Inglis is set to be released by PBKS. In IPL 2025, he played 11 games, scoring 278 with a 30.88 average and a 162.57 strike rate.

His release will free up ₹2.60 crore funds for PBKS. If the Kings also release Glenn Maxwell, the available funds will shoot up to ₹6.8 crore. That's surely a tempting choice for Punjab. 😉

Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler, Sai Sudharsan, Rashid Khan and Kagiso Rabada are some players to be retained without a doubt.

Suspense over Deepak Chahar's future continues to prevail. From CSK, he landed in MI last year. 

However, with Shardul Thakur already traded, he is likely to play as third bowling option alongside Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya. 

With no space available for Chahar in the playing XI, MI can consider releasing him. Remember, his release will free up ₹9.25 crore space. Nevertheless, this is a good headache for MI think tank!

After a wait of 18 years, RCB finally lifted their maiden IPL trophy in 2025. Hence, in all likelihood, they'll look to retain their winning combination.

However, with Dinesh Karthik at the helm, a few tweaks cannot be ruled out. Liam Livingstone and Yash Dayal are likely to be released. So a sizeable purse is required to invest in more reliable young Indian talents.

Heinrich Klaasen is most likely to be retained by SRH. There were speculations of his release, given the big price tag of ₹23 crore that he carries on his shoulders. However, Sunrisers will reportedly back him to secure some strength in the middle-order.

With Mohammed Shami traded, SRH have ₹10 crore in their purse. Moreover, by releasing players like Rahul Chahar, Adam Zampa, Sachin Baby and a couple more, Hyderabad can secure close to ₹20 crore purse value.

LSG will reportedly release experienced leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi into the IPL 2026 mini-auction pool.

However, according to reports, the release will happen through mutual agreement. Ravi Bishnoi is likely given the assurance that LSG will buy him back in the auction but for a lower price.

Releasing Matheesha Pathirana actually seems like a smart, calculated move by CSK. The Sri Lankan quick was retained last year for a massive price of ₹13 crore, but persistent injuries and a tweaked action have reduced his pace and effectiveness. 

His IPL 2025 numbers — 13 wickets in 12 matches at 10.14 economy — didn’t justify such a high price tag. With Nathan Ellis already in the squad as a reliable overseas seamer, CSK can afford this call. 

Most importantly, they can still buy Pathirana back at a much lower price in the auction. ₹13 crore addition to the purse will make a lot of difference on the auction table. Hence, strategically, this makes sense to some extent!!

Rajasthan Royals deserve credit for executing two major strategic moves ahead of IPL 2026. Bringing in Ravindra Jadeja significantly boosts their spin attack, fielding strength and lower-order hitting, while acquiring Donovan Ferreira at a low cost adds fresh finishing firepower.
