11:10 PM | Kolkata Knight Riders' spinners combined to make up a disastrous batting outing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Although RCB openers provided them a good start, as soon as the spinners came in, there was no looking back for KKR.

Nine wickets were taken by the KKR tweakers with Varun Chakaravarthy running riot with his four-for. Suyash Sharma and Sunil Narine took three and two wickets respectively.

Kolkata Knight Riders win by 81 runs.

That's the match. RCB is bowled out for 123 runs. Chakaravarthy bowls a quicker one. Akash miscues it in the air and the spinner completes the catch all by himself.

Akash Deep sends one in the night sky and it's a gigantic six.

Willey is ensuring that the margin of the defeat reduces. Hits a straight boundary and is batting on 18 off 17 deliveries.

Akash Deep is the no.11 and he scores a boundary, facing his second delivery.

Karn Sharma is caught at first slip. Suyash Sharma takes his third wicket of the match. KKR are one wicket away from a humongous win.

10:52 PM | KKR take a review for a catch. It's out.

Aayush: More so than the loss, RCB's net run-rate will take a massive beating and in a tournament like IPL, it goes without saying how massive role it plays for a team to qualify for the playoffs.

Karn Sharma is the new batter.

10:44 PM | Umpire signals for a strategic break.

And Suyash has another wicket. Outsmarts DK. Karthik plays a sweep away from his body and inside-edges the ball in the air. Gets caught inside the circle.

David Willey walks out to the middle.

Suyash Sharma comes to bowl his second over and takes his maiden IPL wicket. As the commentator says, spinners continue to rule the roost. Full delivery, Anuj Rawat aims to hit a slog sweep. Fails in the execution and top-edges the ball to the fielder.

10:35 PM | Anuj Rawat comes in place of Mohammed Siraj as RCB's Impact Player.

Shardul and his way of finding wickets. A hit-me delivery has dismissed Bracewell. A short ball around the leg-stump line. The batter goes for the pull but gets holed out at short fine-leg.

Something for RCB finally. After Bracewell's six in the previous over, Karthik also gets a move-on, pounces on a short-pitch delivery and smacks it to the boundary.

Dinesh Karthik is RCB's no.7.

Time-out!

Shahbaz Ahmed tries to take on Sunil Narine. Plays a reverse-sweep, also connects it well but plays it straight to the fielder.

Shahabaz Ahmed is the new batter.

Harshal Patel's promotion does no wonders as he falters for duck. He drives a full ball but it catches the inside-edge of his bat. Second in the over for Chakaravarthy.

Harshal Patel is in at no.5.

It's Chakaravarthy again. Scalps Maxwell's wicket with a googly. Bowls flatter. The Aussie tries to hoick it across the line but misses it as ball hits the stumps.

Aayush: RCB ends the powerplay at 50/2. Could be anybody's game this but Maxwell must fire if RCB want to stay in the match.

Glenn Maxwell walks in at no.4 for RCB.

Spinners doing the magic for KKR. After Narine's wicket, Chakaravarthy contributes and shows Faf the way towards the dressing room as the South African gets bowled.

Varun Chakaravarthy is the new bowler.

Michael Bracewell joins Faf at the crease.

Eden Garden erupts. And rightly so as Narine bamboozles Kohli. Cleans him him up with an off-break.

Sunil Narine comes in to the attack.

Southee bowls at hard length. Kohli did not hit it from the middle if the bat but still gets four runs. And his skipper goes one up on him and fires in three back-to-back boundaries, including a six. 23 runs come off Southee's over and RCB are 42/0 at the end of the fourth.

In the slot and Faf du Plessis drives in the air towards extra cover attain his first boundary in the innings.

9:44 PM | Tim Southee bowls the second over and gives away only two runs.

Virat Kohli opens his and RCB's account with a trademark flick and gathers four runs. Closes the over with a boundary as well.

9:39 PM | Suyash Sharma is KKR's Impact Player and he replaces Venkatesh Iyer.

9:37 PM | Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis will open for RCB. Umesh Yadav to bowl the first over of the innings.

9:20 PM | That was an innings of two halves. After the likes of David Willey and Karn Sharma reduced Kolkata Knight Riders to 89/5, a 103-run partnership between Shardul Thakur and Rinku Singh tormented Royal Challengers Bangalore, who submitted to duo's prowess. Rahmanullah Gurbaz too played a fighting 57-run knock.

Shardul scored his maiden IPL fifty and helped KKR ride over 200 runs in 20 overs.

Kolkata Knight Riders finish the innings at 204/7.

Umesh Yadav hits a first-ball boundary.

Shardul is out. Siraj takes his wicket. Again a bouncer buys RCB a wicket. The batter tries to pull but could not get all of it and is caught at long-on.

Sunil Narine is KKR's no.8.

9:15 PM | Last over remaining in the innings. KKR are at 192/6.

A wicket finally for RCB. A slower bouncer does the trick. Rinku Singh is the man, who gets dismissed.

The partnership between Shardul Thakur and Rinku Singh cross 100 runs.

It's raining boundaries here. Rinku Singh joins in the onslaught. Goes straight and gets a four. Then, eyes the deep mid-wicket area and clears the ropes twice.

Siraj bowls a high full-toss. Shardul scoops it right over the wicket-keeper for a six. KKR are 175/5 in 18 overs.

9:05 PM | RCB have challenged on-field umpire's no-ball call. The decision stays.

A full-delivery by Siraj and Shardul pummels it to mid-off for a four.

9:00 PM | Third-umpire is checking for a run-out. It's not-out.

Take a bow, Shardul Thakur!!! Pulls the ball towards the mid-wicket region to score his maiden IPL fifty off 20 deliveries.

RCB's injury list

8:54 PM | Umpire signals for a strategic break.

8:53 PM | David Willey ends his spell with the figures of 2-16.

Shardul goes into the tennis mode. Brings out the forehand shot and as beats the mid-off fielder and races to another four.

50-run partnership between Shardul Thakur and Rinku Singh.

And now he uses his feet, not once but twice. Targets the mid-wicket region and smokes back-to-back maximums. KKR are 140/5 at the end of the 15th.

Shardul means business tonight. Sweeps the ball well outside the off-stump into the hao between deep mid-wicket and long-on for a six.

Shardul attains a biggie on the free-hit. Clubs one over long-on as KKR move to 113/5 in 13 overs.

Update

Reece Topley ruled out of IPL 2023.

Shardul Thakur is throwing caution to the wind. Scores two consecutive fours in Akash Deep's over.

A inside-edge saves Shardul Thakur, who is the new batter. The hat-trick ball yields four runs.

Andre Russell has to walk back for a golden duck. Karn lurks him in with the flight. The West Indian slogs towards long-off and the catch gets taken.

It's out! Gurbaz perishes. Reverse-sweeps a Karn Sharma delivery and gets caught at short third-man.

First boundary of the match for KKR coming from a bat other than Gurbaz's. Rinku Singh is the man behind this happening.

Aayush: KKR are 79/3 at the 10-over mark. With Gurbaz well-set, they must eye at least 100 runs from here on.

A six brings up Gurbaz's fifty. Clears the deep square-leg boundary with a slog sweep.

8:20 PM | Karn Sharma comes to bowl after the time-out.

Time-out!

An 85 metre six from Gurbaz. He is teeing off now. Bracewell flights the delivery and the batter slogs it to deep mid-wicket. Follows that up with a four off the pull shot.

Gurbaz picks the bowl from the off-stump and sweeps it to deep square-leg for a four.

8:10 PM | Gurbaz challenges umpire's lbw decision. The ball has hit the gloves. It's not-out.

Shahbaz Ahmed is the new bowler.

Rinku Singh comes out to bat.

Nitish Rana plays a reverse-sweep. The ball touches his gloves and goes in the air only to be taken by the wicket-keeper. Michael Bracewell takes the wicket on the first delivery of his spell.

8:04 PM | RCB have taken a review for caught-behind. That's out.

Michael Bracewell comes in to the attack.

Aayush: That was a well-balanced powerplay. Although KKR have lost two wickets, they still have managed to score 47 runs.

Gurbaz breaks Willey's nine dot ball streak. Plays a pull and fetches another boundary.

Gurbaz shuffles to the off-stump and deflects the ball to fine-leg for a four. It's given as byes though.

FIRST MAXIMUMMM OF THE MATCH!!! Akash Deep bowls short and Gurbaz just pulls it away to fine leg. And it's a no-ball as well.

RCB brings in Akash Deep as the first-change bowler.

7:52 PM | Willey bowls a double-wicket maiden. Kolkata are 26/2 in four overs.

Nitish Rana joins Gurbaz in the middle.

Two in Two!!! Mandeep Singh goes for a golden duck. He tries to play straight but the ball shapes away and hits the off-stump.

Iyer is gone. Willey strikes. The batter to push the ball towards off-side but it cuts in towards the middle-stump and knocks off the poles.

Siraj again provides room to Gurbaz. The batter opens up his arms and smashes it to point for a boundary. And now, dances down the track and places it in the gap for another four. 14 runs off the over, including four byes.

King Khan in the house

David Willey will bowl from the other end.

That went like a tracer bullet. Width on offer, Gurbaz guides it to the third man. The fielder at third man reaches to the ball but could not stop the boundary.

Siraj goes down the leg side and concedes five wides. This opens the account for KKR.

7:29 PM | Venkatesh Iyer and Rahmanullah Gurbaz are the KKR openers. Mohammed Siraj will bowl the first over of the match.

Impact Players

Kolkata Knight Riders: Narayan Jagadeesan, David Wiese, Anukul Roy, Vaibhav Arora, Suyash Sharma

Royal Challengers Bangalore: Sonu Yadav, Suyash Prabhudessai, Mahipal Lomror, Anuj Rawat, Finn Allen

Playing XIs

Royal Challengers Bangalore: Faf du Plessis (c), Virat Kohli, Michael Bracewell, Glenn Maxwell, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Shahbaz Ahmed, Karn Sharma, David Willey, Harshal Patel, Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj

Kolkata Knight Riders: Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), Mandeep Singh, Nitish Rana (c), Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, Suyash Sharma, Shardul Thakur, Sunil Narine, Tim Southee, Umesh Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy

Nitish Rana (Kolkata Knight Riders captain): I would have bowled first as well due to the dew factor. Definitely, you can add bowlers or batters as the impact player rule is. This is the best part of the rule and what it is for. Anukul Roy is making way for Suyash Sharma who is making his IPL debut.

Faf du Plessis (RCB Captain): We are going to have a bowl first, quite a bit misunderstanding of the accent there. Feels like there's a bit of dew and we are hoping that it would get more skiddy in the second half and because of the change in rule we can have an extra batter also. The title is a long way away and we just want to focus on playing good cricket, and it's a strong opposition, so we are really motivated to give our best. Just a forced change, Topley being injured and David Willey coming in.

Will King Kohli reign supreme?

Fantasy Tips

6:40 PM | Toss coming up 20 minutes.

Pitch Report (Danny Morrison): Whoaaao!! City of Joy, where else we could be, it's Kolkataaaaa [typical Danny Morrison ascent]. The pumping is starting to happen. When I tell you about this pitch, it always has been pumping in recent times. The small little pocket on my left, 58 meters on my left, a 54 for the left-handers behind the square. On the other hand, you have 70-76 in the other pockets. In only the past 9 matches in the venue, the average first innings score is 195. It used to be soo dark, so slow. But now when you look at the recent average score, it should be around there. It is a beautiful tabletop in terms of looking like a billiard table. If you win the toss, who cares, you could home second.

KKR vs RCB: Head to head

In the head-to-head, the Kolkata outfit have an edge over RCB, with 16 victories out of 30 games played in the IPL. However, Bangalore, who have won 14 games vs KKR, have had the upper hand against the opposition of late, winning three of their last five clashes.

Fun Fact: Virat Kohli has the most runs in KKR vs RCB with 786 runs, while Sunil Narine has been the most successful bowler in KKR vs RCB with 21 wickets.

Kolkata, on the flip side, have shown major flaws in their unit. Without regular skipper Shreyas Iyer and Shakib Al Hasan, KKR have things to get sorted, or they will be left behind in the competition. On Wednesday, the management got in the swashbuckler Jason Roy, who will indeed boast KKR's confidence. However, it is uncertain whether he will play against Bangalore or not.

Heading into the contest, RCB key men have shown form as they outclassed the five-time champions at Bengaluru. Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis were gun with the bat, while the combo of Mohammed Siraj and Akash Singh were mesmerising with the ball.

Hello and a warm welcome to OneCricket's Live Blog of the fixture between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. The Faf du Plessis-led RCB have started their IPL campaign on a high, beating Mumbai Indians in a lop-sided affair. Meanwhile, Nitish Rana's KKR were thrashed by Punjab at Mohali and are still off the mark.
