In what turned out to be an absolute, nervy thriller here in Delhi, the home side, Delhi Capitals, prevailed, but not before the match tied, and they had to play a super over.
The home side Capitals batted first and were able to manage 188 runs for the loss of five wickets after the end of their 20 overs, with Abishek Porel scoring 49 off 37 deliveries, while KL Rahul (38), Tristan Stubbs (34*), and Axar Patel (34) helped Capitals in a massive way.
In reply, the Royals started brilliantly, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and skipper Sanju Samson going well until the latter had to retire hurt after scoring a quickfire 31 off 19 balls. However, Jaiswal continued his form and went on to score 51 before getting caught by Mitchell Starc off Kuldeep Yadav. After Jaiswal's departure, it was Nitish Rana who also went on to score 51, but off just 28 deliveries with six fours and two sixes, whereby Rajasthan were in a commanding position by the end of the 17th over. However, after Rana's departure, all of a sudden, the game shifted, where Rajasthan were able to find a few boundaries but not enough to get them over the mark. In the final over, nine runs were required, and Mitchell Starc was handed the ball to handle the situation, which he did brilliantly, as he only gave away eight, resulting in a tied game, after which both sides had to engage in the first super over of the season.
In the super over, the Royals batted first and started off brilliantly, with 10 runs coming off the first four deliveries, including a no-ball, which they couldn't capitalize on, as the next two deliveries ended in two consecutive run-outs, where they were able to add only one more run to their tally, as they were eventually bowled out for just 11.
Requiring 12 for victory, the duo of KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs came out striding to chase the target, and they did that exceedingly well, with Rahul getting two off the first ball while managing four off the second, and then taking a single off the third. With that, they required five runs off the last three deliveries, where Stubbs took the opportunity and deposited Sandeep into the stands to seal the game for the Capitals after a long night of ups and downs.
