In the latest development, the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) has honored five Indian legendary cricketers with the Honorary Life Membership.

The five Indian cricketers among a whole host of international superstars who have been conferred with the same are namely Mithali Raji, Jhulan Goswami, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina and the multiple World Cup-winning skipper MS Dhoni.

The legendary duo of Jhulan Goswami and Mithali Raj called time on their respective glorious careers in 2022 as the leading wicket-taker (255) and run-scorer (7805) in Women's ODI cricket history.

Goswami, incidentally, played his final international game at the "Home of Cricket" Lord's against England last summer, where the Women in Blue completed a historic whitewash.

Mithali, on the other hand, retired earlier that year following a disappointing ODI World Cup campaign in New Zealand.

As captain, Raj led India to the final of the 2005 and 2017 50-over World Cups, where the Women in Blue came up short against Australia and England respectively.

As far as men's cricketers are concerned, the history of Indian white-ball cricket will never be complete without the mention of the trio of MS Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina.

Together, the trio formed the heartbeat of the Indian middle-order during the mid 2000s right until 2015.

Yuvraj, the senior most among the trio, called time on his decorated career in 2019 after having played stellar roles in India's 2007 T20 and 2011 World Cup campaigns.

Raina and Dhoni, meanwhile, walked into the sunset on August 15, 2020, with the former joining the latter and his best friend to bring down curtains on his international career.

Dhoni, who led India to all three ICC event titles and the No.1 ranking spot in Tests, also scored more than 14000 international runs across the three formats during his 15-year-old career, where he gave his fans countless moments of joy both in front and behind the wickets.

Raina, meanwhile, remains the first Indian to score a 100 in all three formats of the game, and it was his crucial knocks during the quarterfinal and semi-final against Australia and Pakistan which proved to be the difference between India winning the title and another heartbreak.

Here’s what the MCC Chief Executive & Secretary of MCC, Guy Lavender said:

“We are thrilled to be able to announce our newest cohort of Honorary Life Members of MCC, as we prepare for the new international summer.

“The names that have been announced today are some of the greatest international players of modern times, and we are privileged to now count them as valued Members of our Club.

“We are also pleased to be able to announce two individuals who have been awarded this honour for their monumental contributions off the pitch.”
