Former Coach Tom Moody Decodes Sunrisers Hyderabad's Potential Weakness

So far in two Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 matches, Sunrisers Hyderabad's (SRH's) batting has looked clueless and failed to muster runs against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to end up losing both these respective matches.

Former coach Tom Moody, speaking on ESPNcricinfo's show T20 Time Out, explained SRH's glaring mistake, which caused their defeat against LSG last evening on a low and slow track.

SRH batters managed just 121 runs and were exposed to the likes of Krunal Pandya, Amit Mishra, and Ravi Bishnoi, who claimed six wickets amongst each other.

The former World Cup-winning player and coach explained that Hyderabad has a lot of right-handers in their batting order, which makes them a one-dimensional unit.

Here's what Moody said

"The thing that screams out to me is that they left the auction table knowing they had a team full of right-handers.They released a left-hander in Nicholas Pooran who hit the winning run [for Lucknow on Friday] and they brought someone who was 30% more expensive, who is a right-hander [Harry Brook]....similar sort of impact player.

They left out Abhishek Sharma, a left-hander, so there's a lot of things to unpack. When they're going to play on surfaces like that ... when there is that tendency where you can be exposed by being very one dimensional on slow turning tracks, you are sitting ducks."

With 12 matches still remaining, SRH's think-tank can regroup and turn the fortunes of their side going forward.

Currently placed last in the IPL 2023 points table, SRH meets Punjab Kings on Sunday in their second home game.
