Ahead of the one-off Test against Ireland starting on Thursday, England Test head coach Brendon McCullum confirmed that pacers James Anderson and Ollie Robinson will miss the Lord's encounter. However, McCullum asserted that both Anderson and Robinson will regain full fitness ahead of the first 'The Ashes 2023' Test.

Australia will tour England next month and will engage in the first Test on June 16, after finishing their ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 Final against India, beginning June 7.

Anderson injured his groin while playing for Lancashire against Somerset, while Robinson had issues with his Achilles tendon playing for Sussex against Glamorgan in County Championship 2023-24, respectively.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the former New Zealand captain expressed also confidence in skipper Ben Stokes' recovery ahead of the Ashes.

Here's what McCullum said

"For the first Ashes Test, I think [Anderson and Robinson] should be fit. They won't be fit for this one against Ireland. We'll just have to monitor it over this next sort of while, but we've got some great options right throughout the squad."

"Stokesy is progressing well too. He looks really fit as well, looks in great order and has a big smile on his face. He is delighted to be back around the group and as our leader, having that sort of energy he brings is fantastic, so again we'll monitor that and see what happens.I think he'll bowl at some stage throughout the summer, yeah, no doubt. He is a world-class allrounder and if he is able to bowl, fantastic. If not, we'll find a way."

Stokes featured in just two Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 matches for champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) this season owing to his niggle.

Under McCullum and Stokes, England have revitalised their Test side, winning 10 out of their last 12 matches.
