Born on September 22, 1988, Jay Shah is a key figure in global cricket governance, currently is the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Jay Shah was born to Amit Shah, India's Minister of Home Affairs, and Sonal Shah, and spent his early years in Gujarat. Growing up in a politically active family, Shah was imbued with discipline and leadership values from an early age.

Completing his schooling in Gujarat, he built a strong academic foundation while nurturing a passion for cricket. During his teenage years, Jay aspired to become a cricketer and even trained under former Gujarat Cricket Team coach Jayendra Sehgal.

Although his childhood cricketing ambitions took a different turn, Jay ultimately fulfilled his dream by becoming a key figure in cricket administration, shaping the sport in ways he once envisioned on the field.

A cricket enthusiast, Jay Shah’s career in cricket started in September 2013, becoming the joint secretary of the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA). Following his involvement in the BCCI in 2015 as he joined the finance and marketing committees.  

His financial understanding quickly became evident as he played a key role in negotiating a record-breaking media rights deal for the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2022, where the rights were sold for a staggering ₹48,390 crore.

In October 2019, Shah was elected as the youngest Secretary of the BCCI, a position he continues to hold, leading initiatives like the Women's Premier League and overseeing major tournaments hosted by India.

After completing his schooling locally, Shah pursued a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree from Nirma University in Ahmedabad.

His educational background in engineering provided him with a strong analytical foundation, which he later applied to cricket administration. Married to Rishita Patel, Jay Shah is a proud father of two daughters and a son.

After graduating from Nirma University in Ahmedabad, Jay Shah joined his family's PVC pipe business around 2003.  Following in his father's footsteps as a former stockbroker, Jay founded a trading company, Temple Enterprises Pvt Ltd, in 2004. 

In 2015, he acquired a 60% stake in Kusum Finserve, a stock trading and marketing consultancy firm. Temple Enterprises Pvt Ltd was later shut down in October 2016.

In January 2021, Jay Shah was appointed as the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), and in January 2024, he was re-elected to the position.

Shah's leadership at the ACC has been marked by his efforts to promote cricket across Asia, and creating stronger ties between member nations.

Jay Shah's involvement with the International Cricket Council began in December 2019 when he was selected as BCCI's representative for future CEC meetings.

His influence grew, and by November 2022, he was elected as the head of the ICC's Finance and Commercial Affairs (F&CA) committee.

Shah has also been a crucial member of the ICC Olympics Working Group, advocating for cricket's inclusion in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. On December 1, 2024, Shah will take over as the ICC Chair, following his unopposed election.
