The year 2022 has reached its culmination. Indian cricket has seen a lot of ups and downs in it. In this article, we try and take a look at the top five moments from Indian cricket.

On the 10th of December, Ishan Kishan scored 210 runs off 131 balls in the final ODI of the three-match series against Bangladesh.

Kishan tumbled a bunch of records in this effort. He became the youngest player to score a double hundred in ODI cricket; it was the fastest double hundred in this format of the game.

Kishan also became the only player to convert his maiden ODI hundred to a double ton, and he took the least number of innings to reach an ODI double hundred.

5. Ruturaj Gaikwad hitting seven sixes in an over

On the 28th of November 2022, Ruturaj Gaikwad created history. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy quarter-final clash against Uttar Pradesh, the right-handed batter hit seven sixes off Shiva Singh's bowling.

It was the 49th over of the Maharashtra innings. Gaikwad wreaked havoc on Shiva Singh and tumbled multiple records as he scored 43 runs off the over.

It stands as the most runs scored by a batter in a single over in List A cricket, the second most number of sixes hit in an over, and also the only instance in Indian cricket when this happened.

Gaikwad carried his bat in the innings with a score of 220 runs as Maharashtra won the match by 58 runs.

4. Narayan Jagadeesan's record breaking innings

21st November 2022 saw Narayan Jagadeesan of Tamil Nadu destroy records against Arunachal Pradesh as he brought down hell on the bowlers. Opening the innings for his team, the right-hander played 141 deliveries and scored 277 runs.

This effort by Jagadeesan stands as the highest individual score ever in men's List-A cricket. His stellar effort helped Tamil Nadu post a gigantic total of 506 for 4 in their 50 overs. It was the first time a team could go past the 500-mark in List-A cricket.

Tamil Nadu won the match by 435 runs, which is the biggest win in terms of runs in List-A cricket.

3. Deepti Sharma's 'Mankading' Incident

On 24th September 2022, the Indian Women's cricket team created history, defeating England on their home soil in an ODI series for the first time.

But in the last match of the series, a particular incident shifted the focus from this remarkable achievement.

Deepti Sharma came into the attack in the 44th over the English innings. The batter on strike at this stage was Freya Davies, the number eleven of England. At the non-striker's end was Charlie Dean, who was going strong.

Deepti turned around in her bowling stride and ran out Deans at the non-striker's end. This meant that India won the match by 16 runs and, with that, clean-swept the home side in the series. But rather than focusing on what the Indian team had achieved, the focus turned to whether Deepti's action was in the spirit of the game.

2. Virat Kohli's 71st international century

The cricketing empire waited 1021 days for the King to score his 71st international century. In the Asia Cup 2022 clash against Afghanistan (8th September, 2022) Virat Kohli came out to open the innings for India.

He played 61 balls in the innings to score 122 runs in them. It was the first century for Kohli in the T20I format and the 71st in international cricket. His fans waited nearly three years to see the King reach the magical triple figures.

1.India defeating Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2022 clash

Batting first in the match, Pakistan scored 159 runs in 20 overs. While chasing, India was four down for 31 runs in just 6.1 overs. From there, it took an unreal effort from Virat Kohli (82* off 53) to take India to a thrilling four-wicket win.

In the heist, Kohli was aided by Hardik Pandya (40 off 37). The match went to the last ball and tested the players' nerves to the fullest.

Kohli showed the world why he is regarded as the undisputed King of cricket and took India to victory in one of the best matches in cricketing history. It allowed Kohli and India to redeem themselves from their defeat against their arch-rivals in the 2021 edition of the tournament.
