However, before the match goes live, let us look at the important player stats, the best player picks, the top captain and vice-captain choices and the best-predicted XIs for the fantasycontests of the match.

Team Preview- England

England will be looking to start their WTC 2023-25 cycle on a strong note after failing to qualify for the finals on the previous two occasions. Especially with their new approach to Test cricket, termed by the cricketing fraternity as the 'Bazball', England hopes to make a mark this time.

The English players played a one-off Test against Ireland ahead of the Ashes to prepare for the all-important series. The batting unit looked in good touch, with the top order firing. The bowlers played the perfect role providing the cherry on the top for the English team as they restricted the Irish to modest totals in both innings.

Seeing how England maintains their approach against the mighty Aussies will be intriguing.

Team Preview- Australia

Australia will be coming into the series with tremendous confidence. They are the current world Test champions, and having achieved the feat just a week earlier, the momentum will be with them. The biggest positive for the Aussies will be that they have performed brilliantly on English soil against India in the WTC final.

Steve Smith played a crucial role in Australia's win, while Travis Head was a catalyst for them. Speaking of the bowling unit, Pat Cummins, Scott Boland, and Nathan Lyon did the necessary to see the Test mace going to Canberra. It was a complete performance from them, and they will be looking to continue form into the first match.

Australia will give a hard challenge to the English approach of going all out in the matches.

ENG vs AUS, Top Captain or Vice-captain choices

Steve Smith (AUS)

Reasons

  • Steve Smith looked in good touch in the WTC final against India. He played a crucial role in setting up a big score in the first innings and will be looking to continue the form in this series.
  • The Australian superstar has a great record at England and will be looking to make it count throughout the series.

Ollie Pope (ENG)

Reasons

  • Ollie Pope is coming into the match on the back of a double hundred in the last match that he played against Ireland. He will be looking to ride on the good batting form that he was behind himself.
  • While his record against Australia might suggest that Pope is a risky pick, his current form will a crucial factor in the match. Pope might be the differential choice as the captain or vice-captain of the match.

Pat Cummins (AUS)

Reasons

  • The Aussie skipper will be a key player in the whole series. The lengths that Cummins generally bowls might prove to be very effective.
  • Pat Cummins has not been in the best of forms recently and as a result not many fantasy players will be choosing him as the captain or the vice-captain. Thus a good performance from Cummins might give you an edge over the others.
