REN vs STR, Match 18: Venue Analysis

The track at the Docklands Stadium in Melbourne is helpful for both seam bowlers and spinners. Runs scoring has also been easy on this surface as batters do get value for their stroke-making.

REN vs STR, Match 18 - Toss Factor

Brisbane Heat chased down the target comfortably in the only game that took place at the Docklands Stadium this season. The skipper winning the toss may well look to bowl first and do the same.

Scenario: If Melbourne Renegades Fields First

Tom Rogers and Will Sutherland have been amongst the wickets along with Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman for the Renegades so far this season. The trio will be key for their side again in doing the job against the Strikers. Veteran Shaun Marsh was back in the last fixture and he also struck a half-century. He will be the main man along with Quinton de Kock in a run-chase.

Scenario: If Adelaide Strikers Fields First

Jamie Overton and David Payne are the frontline bowlers for the Strikers. The duo will have to do the job of picking up wickets and restricting the Renegades to a low total. Skipper Matthew Short has struck two half-centuries in two games as he looks to lead his side from the front by also scoring runs right at the top of the order.

REN vs STR, Match 18 - Top Captain and Vice-captain choices

Scenario: If Adelaide Strikers Fields First

Matthew Short (STR)

As mentioned above, captain Matthew Short is the leading run-scorer for the Strikers so far. The right-handed opening batter smashed 82 off 41 against Sydney Thunder and then hit 55 off 48 against Sydney Sixers. Short will hope to continue his solid form and guide his side home especially in a big run-chase.

D'Arcy Short (STR)

D'Arcy Short also looked in good nick against the  Thunder. The left-handed opening player slammed 66 off 47 with the help of six fours and two maximums. The 33-year old bagged a single-digit score against the Sixers but would be raring to go for this one. Short will look to support his captain especially while chasing a big target.

Scenario: If Melbourne Renegades Fields First

Shaun Marsh (REN)

Shaun Marsh is one of the most high-profile players in the history of the Big Bash League. The left-handed experienced batter returned to play his first game of the ongoing season last time out and looked in great touch straightaway. The 40-year old struck 59 off 36 with four fours and three maximums against Perth Scorchers. The Renegades will again rely on him to do the same job against the Strikers.

Quinton de Kock (REN)

After bagging a seven-ball duck in his first match of BBL 13, South Africa wicketkeeper batter Quinton de Kock has got starts in his last two outings. The left-handed opener scored 38 off just 22 with three fours and as many sixes against Hobart Hurricanes. de Kock then amassed 23 off 18 which included three fours and a maximum against the Scorchers. He will hope to convert his starts into a substantial match-winning knock this time around.

REN vs STR, Match 18 - Big Risk, Big Return Choices

Jake Fraser-McGurk (REN)

After scoring 48 off 24 and 55 off just 23 in his first two games, Jake Fraser-McGurk has now registered two single-digit scores in the last two fixtures. The 21-year old right-handed youngster, who bats at a crucial no. three spot, is a talented player and has the potential to achieve big things. Fraser-McGurk will hope to get back amongst the runs in this contest.

Chris Lynn (STR)

Veteran Chris Lynn is the leading run-getter in the history of the BBL. After scoring 14 off 17 against the Thunder, the experienced campaigner looked in good form against the Sixers as he struck 37 off just 17 with four fours and two sixes. Lynn is a worthy pick for this category and for this tie.
