The third edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) roared to life as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Women scripted their first win of the tournament with a jaw-dropping six-wicket victory over Gujarat Giants Women at Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara.
Defending champions RCB chased down a mammoth target of 202 with nine balls to spare, becoming the first team in WPL history to successfully hunt down a 200-plus total, setting the tone for a thrilling season ahead.
The RCB camp erupted in unbridled joy after the win, with players swapping cricket gear for dance moves. The team’s celebrations mirrored the electric atmosphere of the match, blending raw emotion with quirky cultural flair. RCB’s official social media channels captured the euphoria, sharing a video where Kanika Ahuja led a spirited bhangda while Richa Ghosh channelled her inner Pushpa Raj with the iconic "Fire Nahi Wildfire" swagger.
Skipper Smriti Mandhana, visibly elated, praised the duo's resilience saying,“We all know what Richa can do so I won't talk about Richa. But I am really happy the way Kanika batted today. She came off really well after her injury and took the load off Richa.”
Richa, the star of the match also shared a few words on the dream partnership she and Kanika built.
"We had this plan when Kanika and I were batting, it was a bit of a pressure on us but we intended to keep things positive and we can turn things around," Richa said in the video.

Richa Ghosh, named Player of the Match, turned the game on its head with a ferocious unbeaten 64 off just 27 balls, laced with 7 fours and 4 sixes. Her explosive partnership with Kanika Ahuja (30* off 13) stole the show, as the duo hammered 39 runs in two overs to resurrect RCB from 109/4.
Earlier, Gujarat Giants posted 201/5, powered by Ashleigh Gardner’s fiery 79* (37 balls) and Beth Mooney’s 56 (42). Renuka Singh Thakur (2/25) stood out with the ball for RCB. Despite losing openers early, Ellyse Perry (44) and Raghvi Bist (38) laid the foundation before Ghosh and Ahuja’s pyrotechnics sealed a historic win.
