Passionate Indian fans demand team management promote the extravagant middle-order maverick Suryakumar Yadav up the order to help him contribute and make a greater impact on matches at the ICC World Cup 2023.

In an interactive clip issued by the BCCI ahead of the India-Sri Lanka league-stage encounter at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, fans based in Mumbai were seen raving over Suryakumar as India's famed match-winner, with one of them requesting the coach Rahul Dravid and skipper Rohit Sharma to push him up the order.

A knowledgeable cricket lover asked the adventurous right-hander to raise his playing standards with a greater chance in the middle, getting the opportunity to face more deliveries up the order and making a bigger influence on games for India.

Playing his first match of the tournament on Sunday (October 29), Suryakumar vindicated the faith and the backing provided by the management with a priceless knock of 49 off 47 deliveries on a tricky surface in India's sixth consecutive victory.

Fans calls for Suryakumar Yadav's promotion

The knock justified India's persistence with Suryakumar in the build-up to the World Cup 2023 when the attacking batter had faced extensive pressure and scrutiny for his struggles in One-Day Internationals despite enriching his status as a world-beater in T20Is.

"Suryakumar Yadav sir, you hardly get to bat, you should move up the order and face more deliveries," the fan says in the clip, featuring the player and the passionate cricket lovers of Mumbai, who look forward to the cricketer's on-field performances.

"He should up his spot and upgrade his game. Now I can't tell the coaches and captain how to go about treating him as a cricketer and making sure he continues to perform, but he shall definitely move up the order and perform."

Notably, Suryakumar had initially batted No.4-5 for India in the run-up to the World Cup 2023 before his struggles and lack of clarity higher up the order forced the team management to bring him down to his more suited No.6 slot.

The middle-order giant is a backup player and got his chance to play against England because of the injury to premier allrounder Hardik Pandya, whose return would pose a headache to Dravid and Rohit about Suryakumar's spot in the line-up, especially if the Mumbaikar continues to grow in strength.
