Indian cricket star Jasprit Bumrah swapped his bowling duties for a night of music and nostalgia as he attended British rock band Coldplay’s electrifying concert at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on January 26. The event, part of Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres world tour, marked their second performance in India, drawing over 1.32 lakh fans.
Jasprit Bumrah, accompanied by his wife and sports presenter Sanjana Ganesan, joined the sea of attendees, blending into the crowd for a rare, off-duty evening and shared the special moments on his social media handle.
Jasprit Bumrah Shares Mini Vlog of Coldplay Concert Experience
Jasprit Bumrah treated fans to a glimpse of his concert experience via a social media vlog. “This was an experience of a lifetime,” Bumrah captioned the post, thanking the Ahmedabad audience and the Coldplay band. The clip captured candid moments, the couple meeting ecstatic fans, signing autographs, and posing for selfies.
Behind the scenes, Bumrah also shared a warm interaction with Chris Martin backstage, exchanging laughs and mutual admiration. Sanjana was visibly thrilled as the crowd’s chants for Bumrah momentarily rivalled the band’s crescendos.
Chris Martin Serenades Bumrah With Heartfelt Tribute
The highlight of the night came when Coldplay’s frontman, Chris Martin, paused the concert to honour the Indian pace spearhead. Martin, known for his spontaneous interactions, dedicated an impromptu song to Bumrah tributing him for his greatness.
The crowd erupted in cheers, chanting “Bumrah! Bumrah!” as the cricketer waved back with a grin. This wasn’t Martin’s first nod to Bumrah. During an earlier show, he had humorously mentioned fearing a cricket match against the bowler, calling him “the best in the world.”
Jasprit Bumrah's Fitness A Concern For Champions Trophy
While Bumrah, who was crowned the ICC Men's Cricketer of the Year, revelled in the concert’s euphoria, questions linger over his availability for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The pacer recently experienced back discomfort during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy final, forcing him to skip bowling in the second innings at Sydney. Scans scheduled for February 2 will determine the severity of the issue.
The BCCI has already named Harshit Rana as his backup for the first two ODIs against England, signalling caution. Despite being named in India’s Champions Trophy squad, Bumrah’s participation hinges on a smooth recovery.
