Coincidence in ROKO and MSD's retirement [Source: @SelflessCricket/x.com]
The inevitable happened and Virat Kohli announced his retirement from Test cricket on Monday. He posted a heartfelt message on Instagram as the India great bid adieu to the game's longest format. This decision comes after another India stalwart, Rohit Sharma retired from Tests, last week.
The two greats of the game left Test cricket in a span of one week and it has left a major void in Indian cricket. However, a decade back, another India legend retired from the whites - MS Dhoni. He, too, just like Rohit and Kohli made a shocking and unexpected retirement announcement. However, more than anything else, there is also a major coincidence that the trio share.
Major coincidence between RO-KO and MSD's retirement
Interestingly, all the three greats of Indian cricket, Virat, Rohit and MSD played their last home test at the Wankhede Stadium. While Rohit and Kohli played against New Zealand at this venue before their tour, Down Under, MSD featured at Wankhede Vs West Indies in 2013, which was also Sachin Tendulkar's last-ever Test match.
Now, there is another coincidence between the three. All of them played their last-ever Test match in Australia before signing off from the Test cricket. Sydney Cricket Ground was Kohli's final game, while Rohit played the MCG Test match and never played in whites again.
MSD also played his final Test in Australia, during the 2014/15 tour as he bid adieu after the famous MCG Test match.
Kohli will next be seen in action once the IPL resumes, most likely this week as RCB will take on LSG.
