The IPL 2025 is all set to catch the imagination of cricket fans around the world again, and like the 2024 season, the upcoming edition will also see ten quality teams going up against each other. The excitement around the event is increasing with each passing day, and over the years, all the teams have developed a very dedicated fanbase across platforms.

Lot of factors like performance of the team, presence of star players, promotion, love for one's state team all play a role in attracting fans towards a particular team and let's now see which is the most popular IPL team on social media (Instagram, X and Facebook).

The Indian Premier League started in 2008 and till the 2021 season, there were eight franchises - Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings (formerly known as Kings XI Punjab, Delhi Capitals (formerly known as Delhi Daredevils and Sunrisers Hyderabad (Earlier Deccan Chargers). 

There were few other teams who came in for a year or couple to fill some places while the two permanent teams were added from 2022 season in the form of Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants. Among these 10 teams, Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians have won five trophies each and both these teams are the most followed teams on social media as well.

Chennai Super Kings Emerge As Most Followed IPL Team On Social Media

Chennai Super Kings lead the way with 16.6M followers on Instagram and 10.7M followers on X.com while they have 14M followers on Facebook. It makes their total at 41.3 Million which is little more than the second most followed team on social media - Mumbai Indians. MI have 15.1 Million followers on Instagram while their twitter (X) followers are 8.2 Million and Facebook followers are same as Chennai Super Kings.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru who are known for crazy fan-following despite not winning a single trophy are at the third position. They have 33.3 Million followers in total which includes 16 Million from Instagram, 7.3 Million from X.com, and 10 Million from Facebook. Fourth on the list is Kolkata Knight Riders, the winners of the 2024 edition and with three IPL trophies at their belt, they have 28.8M followers. 

Delhi Capitals (15.6M), Punjab Kings (15.4M), Sunrisers Hyderabad (14.3M) and Rajasthan Royals are fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth in the rankings of social media followers. The two new franchises are at the bottom with Gujarat Titans at 9th position with 6.4M followers and Lucknow SuperGiants are at 5.1M followers.
