It is official, MS Dhoni will play one more season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), as confirmed by CSK CEO, a couple of days ago. After last season, there were speculations that MSD might retire from the league, but as confirmed, he will have one more shot at the IPL title in the upcoming 2026 season.

Before the IPL 2025 mega auction, MS Dhoni made a huge decision to be retained as an uncapped player. Now that MSD has decided to stay with his beloved CSK for one more season, what would be his salary? Will he get the same amount as last season?.

When the mega auction took place, players were bound to a three-year contract, and if retained, they would earn the same amount for three consecutive seasons. Last season, he was retained for INR 4 crore, and hence, the CSK legend will get the same salary for the upcoming season as well. Once the highest earner in the league, MS Dhoni is now one of the lowest-earning legends in IPL.

CSK's grand success under MS Dhoni

MS Dhoni and CSK’s bond is something special and it dates back to the inaugural season when the franchise bought him for INR 6 crores. Since then, both CSK and MSD have achieved massive success in the IPL.

He took the team to the finals in the inaugural season, and then helped them win back-to-back titles in the 2010, 2011 seasons. Under his guidance, the team reached mutiple finals as they captured their third title in the 2018 campaign.

The franchise captured two more IPL titles in 2021, 2023 seasons as MSD became just the second captain after Rohit Sharma to have five championships under his belt. Last season, when Ruturaj Gaikwad, the captain, was ruled out of the tournament due to an injury, CSK once again went back to MSD as the legendary player led the team in the second half of the season.
