India and Pakistan are all set to clash in the Asia Cup 2025 final on Sunday, September 28, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. This is a historic moment, despite decades of fierce rivalry, the two teams have never faced each other in an Asia Cup final.
Notably, India come into the game unbeaten, while Pakistan have already suffered two defeats at India’s hands in this tournament.
As they gear up for this high-voltage encounter, there are three big Indian milestones could be rewritten on the night.
1. Abhishek Sharma closing in on Virat Kohli’s record
India young opener Abhishek Sharma has been the star of the Asia Cup so far. In just six innings, he has smashed 309 runs at an incredible strike rate of over 200, including three consecutive fifties in the Super Four stage. He is only 11 runs short of surpassing Virat Kohli’s record for the most runs by an Indian in a multi-nation T20I tournament.
Kohli had scored 319 runs during the 2014 T20 World Cup, a performance that won him the ‘Player of the Tournament’ award. One solid innings from Abhishek could see him join or even surpass legends like Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
2. Sanju Samson eyeing a wicketkeeper-batter record
Sanju Samson has quietly made his presence felt with the bat, scoring 108 runs in three innings so far, including a half-century against Oman. If he scores 64 more runs in the final, he will overtake Rishabh Pant’s record for the best-ever performance by an Indian wicketkeeper-batter in a multi-nation T20 tournament.
Pant had scored 171 runs in the 2024 T20 World Cup. A strong knock from Samson could put him ahead of Pant and MS Dhoni in the record books.
3. Hardik Pandya need 2 more wickets
All-rounder Hardik Pandya needs just two more wickets to become the leading wicket-taker in Asia Cup T20 history. Currently sitting at 15 wickets, if he strikes twice in the final, he will surpass stars like Wanindu Hasaranga and Haris Rauf.
Even more special, if Pandya achieves this, he will also join an elite club of players with both 1,500 T20I runs and 100 wickets, alongside Shakib Al Hasan and Mohammad Nabi.
