Virat Kohli, one of the most-followed athletes on Instagram with over 271 million followers, surprised fans by wiping his feed clean of all promotional and branded content on April 9. The move sparked intense speculation online, with many wondering if the cricketing icon was stepping away from endorsements altogether.

However, the star batter has now addressed the buzz during a humorous interaction with Danish Sait, also known as Mr. Nags. He shared the real reason behind his move in a behind-the-scenes segment for Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

When Mr.Nags cheekily asked if Virat Kohli's endorsement value had increased after winning the Champions Trophy and ICC T20 World Cup, the cricketer grinned and said, “Yes.” 

Mr.Nags followed up by referencing Kohli's archived posts: “Is that why you have archived all your old photos? Because I saw your Instagram profile.”

Kohli responded thoughtfully, “I’m in a very interesting place with social media. Currently, I’m not in a space where I’d be engaging too much, you never know about the future. But, it definitely needed a reset.”

The banter continued with Mr.Nags asking if their conversation free from any brand promotions-would make it to Kohli’s profile. The star cricketer shook his head in disapproval, clearly enjoying the joke.

Known for balancing cricket, family life, and a massive public image, Kohli's move seems to be more about intentional step than a complete exit from social media or endorsements.

Meanwhile, his IPL side Royal Challengers Bengaluru is in strong form this season, currently placed third on the points table with four wins from six games.
