In recent times, Yuzvendra Chahal has been making headlines more for his personal life than his performances on the field. Following his divorce from Dhanashree Verma after five years of marriage, rumors and allegations of cheating began to circulate about the Indian spinner.
Recently, Chahal broke his silence on this as he reflected on his broken marriage. Calling out the false accusations, the spinner shared the emotional toll it took on him, highlighting the mental battle he fought behind the scenes.
Chahal Highlights Hidden Mental Struggle
As Yuzvendra Chahal is fighting for his spot on the national side, his personal life has also gone through a massive storm. After getting married in December 2020, Chahal separated from his ex-wife Dhanashree Verma in March 2025. After that, the Indian spinner faced harsh criticism regarding some false rumors.
Speaking to Raj Shamani’s podcast, Chahal finally broke the silence on this. Discussing this challenging phase of life, he shared how the mental battle got so intense, he even wrestled with suicidal thoughts.
“I had suicidal thoughts, I was tired of my life, I used to cry for 2 hours. I used to sleep just for 2 hours. It went for 40-45 days. I wanted a break from cricket. I was so busy in cricket. I was not able to concentrate. I used to sleep for 2 hours. Used to share suicidal thoughts with my friend. I used to get scared,” he said.
Breaks The Silence On The Blame Game
After the couple announced their separation, the narrative quickly shifted as Yuzvendra Chahal faced a wave of cheating accusations. These false stories only piled on the pressure, making life even tougher for him. In the recent interaction, Chahal opened up on that.
“I think when my divorce happened, people alleged me of being a cheater. I have never cheated in my life. I am not that kind of a person. You won't find anyone more loyal than me. I think from my heart for my closed ones, always. I do not demand, I always give. When people don't know anything, but they keep blaming me, so you start thinking [otherwise],” he added.
Amid his personal turmoil, Chahal’s cricketing journey also hit a rough patch, missing out on Team India’s squad after last year’s T20 World Cup. In this year’s IPL, he represented the Punjab Kings and had an impressive season. Now grinding it out in county cricket, Chahal is on a mission to script a fiery comeback.
