Mumbai has been one of the best talent breeding grounds for Indian cricket. Over the years, it has gifted the nation with some generational talents who have made the Tri-coulours more prominent on the face of the world.
From Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma, to now Shreyas Iyer. An Indian team without a player hailing from Mumbai has become almost unimaginable.
MCA Cricket Museum To Be Unveiled Next Month
The Mumbai Cricket Association is all set to unveil its museum next month. It will be an attraction for those who visit the Wankhede Stadium. The museum comes as a tribute to the rich heritage of Mumbai cricket and the legends who have graced the game. They have named it the MCA Sharad Pawar Cricket Museum.
As per the latest news, the visitors to the museum will be welcomed by life-size statues of Sharad Pawar, a former MCA, BCCI and ICC Head and India's all-time batting legend, Sunil Gavaskar.
Fitting Tribute To An All-time Legend Of Indian Cricket
When asked about his statue, Sunil Gavaskar said: "I am deeply touched and tremendously honoured that my mother cricket Association has decided to have a statue of me at the entrance of the new MCA Sharad Pawar Cricket Museum at the Wankhede Stadium.
I will forever be grateful to the Mumbai Cricket Association for holding my hand as I took my first steps in the game and to the BCCI for then giving me the opportunity to spread my wings and fulfil the dream of representing my country in the sport. It's an honour which I will cherish for whatever is the rest of my life."
Notably, this seems like a very fitting tribute to probably the first architect of India's revered history of producing outstanding batters. He was the first ever batter to score 10,000 runs in Test cricket and finished his Test career with 34 Test hundreds.
Gavaskar's heroics of facing the "Four Horsemen of Apocalypse" without a proper helmet have been etched in the folklore of Indian cricket forever. The statue at the MCA is just the right kind of honour the legend deserves.
