Gaikwad is coming off a hard-fought Ranji Trophy game against Kerala, where his team collapsed to 5/4 in the first inning.
The captain then played a gutsy 91 off 151 balls knock to save Maharashtra from 5/4 to 239/10.
Kerala also couldn’t do much, folding on 219. While Maharashtra responded strongly with 224/2 in the third inning, time ran out, and the match ended in a draw.
Maharashtra will play against Chandigarh next on October 25 at Sector 16 Stadium.
Gaikwad to play for India A
In other news, Ruturaj Gaikwad has been included in India A's side for the second four-day match against South Africa A, his another step towards comeback following a recovery from an elbow injury that ended his IPL 2025 season short.
The Chennai Super Kings batsman adds experience and solidity to the middle order from stars such as KL Rahul and Devdutt Padikkal. Gaikwad’s inclusion gives him valuable red-ball practice ahead of India’s upcoming two-Test series against South Africa, helping him regain form and match fitness.
