India all-rounder Axar Patel recently showed his fun-loving side on a YouTube show where he reacted to hilarious memes made on him and his former and current teammates.

Axar, who was last seen in the India vs South Africa T20Is, was hearty about the iconic ‘baapu thaari bowling…’ meme by Virat Kohli and also spoke on his first-hand experience on the day of Ms Dhoni’s retirement alongside other epic meme outbursts.

Axar Patel reveals the real reason behind Kohli’s iconic line

During a post-match interview in India’s win against England back in 2021, Virat Kohli crashed Patel’s speech midway to throw in a hilarious compliment that later became a legendary meme. Axar Patel revealed that the story behind Kohli’s gesture was a different one.

“There was actually a different story behind this. You know what kind of words the Delhi guys like to use. Kohli bhai would keep asking me how to say certain beep-beep words in Gujarati. I got a bit nervous that one day he might suddenly say it out loud. Then he just said, “Aye Bapu, thaari bowling kamaal che” I said to myself, thank God, I escaped that one,” Patel said in the video from the channel 2 sloggers.

Axar on MS Dhoni’s retirement day

Axar Patel shared he was totally confused on the day MS Dhoni announced his retirement. Patel revealed that he was totally confused about how to react to the news as Dhoni himself came in to tease him.

“I was confused about whether to laugh or cry. I had just joined the team—I was barely a 20-year-old kid. When I reached the dressing room, there was chaos. Everyone was running to meet Mahi bhai. Back then, he didn’t even carry a phone. Everyone kept telling him, “At least talk to your family, it’s such a big decision.” And Mahi bhai said, “This team is my family.” Then everyone started crying. I wasn’t even that close to him at the time, so I didn’t know how to react. Then Dhoni bhai came up to me and said, “Tu aya Bapu aur mujhe leke chala gaya,” Patel said with a laugh.

Axar Patel then reacted to a few memes that jibed about his toupee and Mohammed Siraj’s English. He even rang up the Indian pacer to have a small chat live on the show before he reflected on his DC partner, Mitchell Starc and his nature.

“Starc is so relaxed off the field that I was shocked myself—is this really Mitchell Starc? He’s like an innocent kid. If you ask him to sit somewhere, he’ll quietly go and sit. He’s great fun to be around,” Patel said on Starc’s off-field behaviour.

Nevertheless, Patel is currently off the field and will be so for some time till India is set up to play against New Zealand in the T20Is in January. His latest commitment might come up on January 21.
