In a recent and deeply personal podcast appearance, Dhanashree Verma, choreographer and ex-wife of cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal, candidly discussed the profound emotional turmoil she experienced during their divorce.
Verma revealed details of her courtroom breakdown and addressed the controversy surrounding Chahal's choice of attire on the final day of proceedings. Despite believing she was mentally prepared for the outcome, Verma described being overwhelmed by emotion when the verdict was due.
Dhanashree Recalls Horrific Courtroom Experience
She recounted the moment with raw honesty on the 'Spill The Tea' podcast for Humans Of Bombay YouTube channel. She recalled the emotional turmoil of being hurt.
"I got so emotional when the verdict was about to be given. I started howling in front of everybody. I just remember that I just kept crying, I was just howling and crying. Of course! All of that happened, and Chahal walked out first," Verma said.
Dhanashree Addresses the T-Shirt Controversy
The conversation then turned to the widespread attention Yuzvendra Chahal received for wearing a T-shirt with the text 'Be Your Own Sugar Daddy' to court. Verma commented on the immediate assumption that she would be blamed.
"You know that people are going to blame you. Before I had even known that this T-shirt stunt had happened, we were all aware that people were going to blame me for this," Verma added.
Recalling her reaction upon seeing videos of the incident, she expressed bewilderment on Chahal's appearence.
"Are bhai, WhatsApp kar deta. T-shirt kyu pehna hai? (You should have sent it on WhatsApp. Why wear the T-shirt?)" Verma added.
Verma further elaborated on the podcast that she chose to deal with the situation with dignity, stressing that she preferred maturity over making public statements that could harm family values. She also reflected on how women are expected to maintain relationships and manage situations quietly due to societal pressures and the fear of being labelled.
Dhanashree On Her Part In The Marriage
Dhanashree Verma highlighted her unwavering support during their marriage, which made the emotional release inevitable. "You have to put in an effort. I know how much I have stood up for my partner, and everybody has seen that. Like for the smallest or biggest things, I have been there. Maybe because of that, my emotions came out," she said.
The couple, who married in 2020, finalised their divorce in 2025. Chahal has previously spoken about his own mental health struggles and maintaining a facade of a happy marriage.
