The recently released film 'Animal', featuring Ranbir Kapoor, has swiftly become a national sensation, amassing over INR 200 crore in India across various languages within just three days of its release.

Unadkat slammed 'Animal' for its portrayal of masculinity

Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, known for his hit 'Kabir Singh' in 2019, 'Animal' has sparked considerable debate for its content. While the film's violence and intensity were expected, following Vanga's promise for more action, it has also drawn criticism for its portrayal of male characters, perceived misogyny, and the treatment of female characters.

Despite its commercial success, the movie has been a topic of controversy. Critics and some viewers have been urged to view the film as mere entertainment, without applying moral scrutiny. Nonetheless, the film's apparent glorification of misogyny and derisive depiction of women along with its graphic violence, have not been well-received by all.

This includes prominent Indian cricketer, Jaydev Unadkat, who recently expressed his dissatisfaction on Twitter. In a now-deleted post, he criticized the film for promoting misogyny under the guise of traditional masculinity and alpha male behaviour, pointing out the lack of relevance such portrayals have in modern society. Unadkat also lamented the glorification of such themes in a widely-viewed movie as he highlighted the entertainment industry's social responsibility.
