Post an incredible run in the Asia Cup 2025, Indian cricketer Abhishek Sharma, after only a few days' rest, appeared on national duty. The continental tournament's Player of the Tournament, on Friday, opened for the national squad in the ongoing unofficial series played between India A and Australia A. However, what caught everyone's eye was his absence from his sister, Komal Sharma's marriage.
Abhishek Sharma, the youngest of the three siblings, despite being the 'darling brother' of Komal, couldn't attend her wedding due to national duties. In a video shared on 'komalselovhogaya', an Instagram handle created to post exclusive photos and videos captured during their wedding and pre-wedding ceremony, Abhishek could not be seen anywhere. On top of that, the same day, the lefty batter has been playing for India A, under Shreyas Iyer.
Abhishek Sharma prioritises national duty with ODI aspirations in mind
Abhishek, who has been in sensational form in the shortest format of the game, T20Is, is yet to make his ODI debut for the Men in Blue. Hence, playing the ODI series became much more apparent for the batter. An impressive performance could garner the much-awaited ODI call-up for the youngster.
Notably, with Rohit Sharma on the verge of ODI retirement, an opening spot can open for grabs. Abhishek, who accumulated 314 runs in the latest edition of the Asia Cup with a spectacular strike rate of 200, was a vital cog for India's dominance in the tournament. Having said that, choosing not to attend his sister's wedding and opting to play for the nation became a harder yet important decision for his cricketing career.
The upcoming ODI series for the Indian team is a three-match series against the mighty Australia, set to be played later this month. India will travel to Australia for the matches, which will take place at Perth, Adelaide, and Sydney on October 19, 23, and 25, respectively. Hence, a spot-worthy performance in these matches could guarantee Abhishek Sharma an ODI call-up.
