Zimbabwe's legendary cricketer, Heath Streak succumbed to his battle with cancer and passed away on Sunday.

Heath Steak was battling cancer for six months

The news of Heath Streak’s death comes on the back of an erroneous report about his demise couple of weeks earlier, prompting a public apology from fellow cricketer, Henry Olonga.

Confirming his passing, Streak's wife, Nadine, penned an emotional homage on Facebook.

“In the early hours of this morning, Sunday the 3rd of September 2023, the greatest love of my life and the father of my beautiful children, was carried to be with the angels from his home where he wished to spend his last days surrounded by his family and closest loved ones. He was covered in love and peace and did not walk off the park alone. Our souls are joined for eternity Streaky. Till I hold you again,” wrote Nadine.

Heath's final moments were at their ancestral Enthokozweni farm in Inyathi, Matabeleland North. His father, Denis Streak, spoke of his son's six-month fight against cancer and confirmed the news of his son’s demise.

“Heath had not been well for a while, for almost six months he was battling cancer. He died in the early hours at 1 AM,” Denis Streak was quoted as saying by Sunday News.

It is worth mentioning that back in May, the cricket community was taken aback by news of Streak undergoing intensive cancer treatment under the care of a renowned oncologist in South Africa.

Over his illustrious 12-year career, Streak represented Zimbabwe in 65 Test matches and 189 One Day Internationals (ODIs), amassing 1990 and 2943 runs respectively. However, it's his incredible tally of 216 wickets in Tests and 239 in ODIs that cements his legacy as Zimbabwe's highest wicket-taker in both formats.
