The ICC World Cup 2023 kicked off in style with New Zealand beating the reigning champions, England, in a one-sided affair by nine wickets, thanks to the outstanding century by Devon Conway and the young batting sensation, Rachin Ravindra.

In the Pakistan-Netherlands match that followed, the Dutch side pulled off a surprising bowling spectacle, managing to bowl out Pakistan for a mere 286 runs.

While they fell short of their target in the chase, they had a shining star in Bas de Leede, who not only took a four-wicket haul but also topped the run-scoring charts for his team in that game.

In another lopsided contest, Bangladesh cruised to an easy six-wicket win in a low-scoring encounter against Afghanistan.

Then, in the following and most recent encounter between Sri Lanka and South Africa, the Proteas batting stalwarts, featuring Quinton de Kock, Rassie van der Dussen, and Aiden Markram, stole the spotlight with blazing centuries, relentlessly taking on the Sri Lankan bowlers.

With three days of World Cup 2023 action behind us, the spotlight now shifts to India, who are set to begin their campaign on Sunday against Australia in Chennai.

As the much-anticipated match approaches, former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan has already picked his MVP for the quadrennial tournament.

According to him, India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah will be the tournament’s MVP and will end the event as the leading wicket-taker.

Here’s what Zaheer Khan told Cricbuzz:

"I would go with Bumrah as he will pick wickets at the start and in the death overs as well.”

"Bumrah would bowl a wicket-taking spell in the middle also. This edition should belong to him, and he will be the leading wicket-taker in this tournament. For me, Bumrah will be the MVP.”

Jasprit Bumrah is set to lead India's fast bowling attack in the ICC World Cup 2023. His knack for picking up wickets at any stage of the game cements his position as one of the premier fast bowlers in world cricket today and this time he will be looking to play his part in India's journey to break the decade-long ICC trophy dry spell.
