You need a proven player like Kohli in a tournament like the World Cup

It has been over 1,000 days since Virat Kohli last scored an international century. And that has led a lot of people to believe that why something like that has happened with the great Virat Kohli.

However, during the last three years, Kohli has sporadically churned out a few significant innings. And while he has not been the run machine he once was, it would be wrong to say that Kohli, over the last three years, has not contributed runs at all.

Similar is the opinion of senior journalist Vimal Kumar, who caught up with OneCricket for an exclusive interview. Kumar not only feels that Kohli has not been as out of form as people think, while also adding that the cricketer will be one of the key players at the T20 World Cup which is soon approaching.

“It is unfair to say that Kohli is not able to score runs. You can't judge someone only by centuries. In the last three years we didn't have much cricket happen for nearly 1.5 years. Plus during this time, he did well in South Africa.”

The journalist also feels that in a tournament like the World Cup, Kohli will play a pivotal role.

“See everyone is playing well - Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda and others. But in a tournament like the World Cup you need a proven player. Kohli has a good record in Australia.

"If Rohit Sharma is dismissed, your next hope to stabilise the innings will be Kohli. You have Hardik Pandya, Dinesh Karthik, Rishabh Pant and the others. But you need a proven champion. Virat is hungry to perform. I am sure he will answer the critics in the Asia Cup and for the World Cup he is too big a player,” Kumar opines.
