Yasir Mohammad earns a maiden United States call-up

The leg-spinner Yasir Mohammad has been named in the United States of America squad for the two back-to-back ODI series, which will be part of Cricket World Cup League Two, and will get underway on May 28.

The leggie was added to the USA T20I squad for Ireland series due to the Covid-19 outbreak in the team last December and took 2 wickets in two T20I matches at an economy of 8.37.

In terms of the ODI squad, the selectors have announced many changes as opposed to the Ireland series, which was cancelled due to the pandemic. Another spinner Vatsal Vaghela had picked 2 wickets at an economy of 5.33 in a single appearance against Ireland but could not secure a place in the presence of Yasir.

Along with Yasir, the team consists of two other spinners Nisarg Patel and Nosthush Kenjige. In addition, the pacers like Rusty Theron and Cameron Stevenson have been named in the squad as well and last played an ODI fixture against Nepal in February 2020.

Theron, who has featured in the IPL, was a part of the USA squad of the ICC Americas T20 World Cup Qualifier. On the other hand, Stevenson refused to be part of the team due to family commitments during the pandemic but has returned after getting a short-term contract.

In 16 league matches, the USA have 7 wins and are at fifth position in the points table of Cricket World Cup League Two. They will host UAE and Scotland in Texas, and Moosa Stadium will be the venue for the tri-series between USA, Nepal, and Oman.

USA 14-man ODI squad: Monank Patel (capt, wk), Rahul Jariwala (wk), Aaron Jones, Nosthush Kenjige, Ali Khan, Jaskaran Malhotra, Sushant Modani, Yasir Mohammad, Saurabh Netravalkar, Nisarg Patel, Gajanand Singh, Cameron Stevenson, Steven Taylor, Rusty Theron
