In a historic development, Phoebe Litchfield has become the first-ever player to be sold in the ongoing Women's Premier League auction in Mumbai. The swashbuckling southpaw has been bought for a whopping price of INR 1 Crores by the Gujarat Giants for the upcoming season of the tournament.

As soon as the auction began, Litchfield was the first player to go under the harmer. Gujarat Giants began the proceedings, raising their hands for the opening bid of INR 30 Lakhs. Meanwhile, UP Warriorz decided to spoil their party, as they joined the bidding war. An intense auction battle went on between these two franchises for quite a while, with the Giants finally winning it by the final bid of INR 1 Crores.

Regarded for her scintillating stroke play, Litchfield recently grabbed the eyeballs through a string of impressive performances in the Women's Hundred 2023. She amassed 279 runs at a healthy average of 34.87 and a blistering strike rate of 132.85 in nine outings. In three T20I innings for Australia, Litchfield has garnered 99 runs, including a half-century, at a strike rate of 220.

After getting Litchfield, the Giants bought Indian pacer Meghna Singh for INR 30 Lakhs. They still have eight slots to fill with INR 4.65 Crores left in their purse.
