The 50-Over World Cup, the marquee event in the cricketing calendar is set to be played in India in October. There has been a lot of buzz around the selection of venues and the schedule for the big event and the curiosity seems to be increasing with each passing day.

Now, in the Special General Meeting (SGM) of BCCI held in Ahmedabad on 27th of May, some very important decisions have been taken. The discussion agendas were the selection of the venues for the World Cup, the upgradation of those venues and the overall schedule of the World Cup 2023. Also, a contentious issue of Asia Cup 2023 was also discussed and the final call on it will be taken after the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting.

The meeting also involved discussions on Women's Premier League (WPL) along with the selection of Indian women's team head coach.

Upgradation of venues and schedule of World Cup 2023

The BCCI has faced criticism recently about the infrastructure in some of India’s leading cricket stadiums from fans and various stakeholders. So, the Indian board has now decided to upgrade the stadiums in the country, and a special committee for the same will be formed.

Also, there were speculations that World Cup venues would be decided during the final of the IPL 2023, but now the BCCI has informed that the venues list will be released during the World Test Championship Final (WTC) to be held at the Kennington Oval, London, from June 7th to 12th of June.

Asia Cup 2023

It has also been decided that the final call on the Asia Cup 2023 will be taken after the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting. The bone of contention has been the venue for the continental cup, as India is not ready to travel to Pakistan, the designated original host of the tournament.

A hybrid model has been proposed by Pakistan, but it too has not gone well with some other members like Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. So, let’s see what the final decision is after the ACC meeting.

India Women’s head coach and WPL

It has also been revealed that the decision on India women’s head coach will be taken before the Bangladesh series, and India last played in the T20 World Cup without a full time head coach. Hrishikesh Kanitkar was in-charge then, and the BCCI has now confirmed that the candidates for the position have been shortlisted.

Also, WPL which was speculated to be held in Diwali 2023 will not be held at that time this year and the second edition will be played in 2024.
