New Zealand and Netherlands, after sustaining contrasting results in their respective World Cup 2023 opening fixtures, will continue their campaign with a match against each other on October 9. Their much-awaited standoff will be hosted by the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

NZ vs NED: New Zealand clear favourites to make it 2-in-2

New Zealand trounced defending champions England by nine wickets in match number one of the 2023 World Cup earlier this week. Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra ignited up the tournament opener with majestic hundreds, as the duo hunted down England’s colossal total with nearly 14 overs still intact in the game.

Riding high from their emphatic win against the 2019 World Cup winners, New Zealand will favour themselves to make it two-in-two by defeating the Netherlands in Hyderabad.

Prior to the tournament, New Zealand also defeated Bangladesh 2-0 in a three-match away series, thus signalling their return to the ODI groove following their humiliating defeat in England less than a month ago.

Netherlands, on the other hand, fell 81 runs short of Pakistan in their World Cup 2023 opener on October 6. The Scott Edwards-led side made its entry into the competition following an unambiguous run at the World Cup 2023 Qualifiers in Zimbabwe back in July, where they handed shock defeats to West Indies and Scotland in must-win games.

Even though the Netherlands lag behind New Zealand in terms of recent form and head-to-head record, one factor that might play into their chances is their familiarity with the playing conditions at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Their opening fixture against Pakistan was played out at the same venue, where they had dismantled the ‘Men in Green’ to 38-3 at one stage up front.
