Women's T20 World Cup Trophy Unveiled At The Sharjah Cricket Stadium By ICC

October 3 marks the onset of the ninth edition of the Women's T20 World Cup in the UAE. The hosts Bangladesh will take on Scotland in the opening clash of the tournament. The governing body of cricket, the International Cricket Council (ICC) unveiled the trophy on September 25 at the iconic Sharjah Cricket Stadium. 

The event was graced by the presence of Khalid Jasim Saif Al Midfa, the Chairman of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority. He has the honourable chief guest of the sparkling ceremony.

Khalid Jasim was joined by Khalaf Bukhatir, CEO of Sharjah Cricket; Waleed Bukhatir, Member of Emirates Cricket Board and Vice Chairman of Sharjah Cricket; Mazhar Khan, General Manager of Sharjah Cricket Stadium and Eisa Hilal Al Hazami, Chairman of Sharjah Sports Council. 

On the grand event Mifda expressed his opinions about the effect of the upcoming tournament. He said that the marquee event will help in boosting the tourism business in the Emirates. Tallking about the tournament, it is a multi-nation ICC event that will see 23 matches played across two venues - Sharajah Cricket Stadium and Dubai International Stadium.

Sharjah Cricket Stadium's Legacy

The iconic Sharjah cricket stadium has been a host to meny memorable matches throughout its history. It has been a host to 299 international games which is the most by any venue in the world. The stadium also holds the record for hosting more number of ODI games than any other venue. Thus the stadium not only holds a special place in the heart of the cricket fans but also has earned global recognition through these achievements.

Midfa was hear saying -

 "This is something we always promote. You can imagine how people know the city because of sports like cricket. Look at the strength of this sport. Many people know the city because of this sport. See how effective it it," as quoted by Gulf Today.

Why the tournament was shifted to the UAE?

Bangladesh is the official host of this tournament. However, due to the political unrest going on in the country, the ICC decided to shift the tournament to the UAE. Khalid Jasim was extended his gratitude to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for agreeing with the ICC.
