According to the emerging reports, the 2026 season of the Women's Premier League will likely be preponed to January. The tournament, which is usually held in February or March, could be conducted in a new cricketing window next year.

WPL 2026 To Take Place In January Instead Of February-March

The inaugural season of the Women's Premier League was entirely conducted in March 2023, while its subsequent editions were played in February-March. However, the tournament's 2026 edition might not be held in the same cricketing window due to its potential clash with the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

The Times of India has reported that the 2026 WPL season might kickstart on January 6 or 8. If the competition is preponed, the WPL auction, which is generally held in November, might be rescheduled to November.

"The tournament is likely to start on Jan 6 or Jan 8, 2026" a source told TOI. The tournament being advanced also means that the auction of WPL, which is normally held in Dec, could be held in Nov this time," a source was quoted as saying by TOI.

A Look At WPL Seasons So Far

Led by Harmanpreet Kaur, Mumbai Indians Women have been the most successful team in the Women's Premier League, lifting the title twice on three occasions. Meanwhile, the Smriti Mandhana-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru clinched the coveted trophy in 2024, breaking the perennial jinx for the franchise.

Meg Lanning's Delhi Capitals have also been one of the most consistent teams in the WPL. The Capitals have entered the final on all three occasions, but they have yet to break the curse of the final. So, the next WPL season will give them a golden opportunity to take one step further and get their hands on the title, which has been a distant dream for them so far.
