In a recent update, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has confirmed that the upcoming ODI series against Australia will feature two matches, instead of the previously announced one. The second One-Day International (ODI) will now be played in Colombo on February 14, 2025.

This news comes as part of a revised schedule for the series, which was initially set to feature only a single ODI between the two teams. The announcement solidifies the ongoing cricketing rivalry between Sri Lanka and Australia, who have a long history of competitive encounters.

The decision to add a second ODI reflects the growing importance of this fixture in both teams' preparations for the Champions Trophy 2025. The two sides will now compete in back-to-back ODIs, with the first match scheduled for February 12 at Colombo. Meanwhile, the teams will also face each other donning the whites for two Tests scheduled for 29th January and 6th February at Galle.

ODI Extension For Champions Trophy Warm Up?

This series is set to be a crucial one for both teams as they aim to build momentum ahead of their respective international schedules. Australia, currently ranked second in the ICC World Test Championship standings, will look to continue their dominant form after retaining the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, while Sri Lanka, ranked fifth, will seek to assert their home advantage.

The ODI series comes on the back of a successful and closely contested 2022 all-format series between the two sides. Sri Lanka won the ODI series on that occasion, while Australia claimed victory in the T20I series. Both teams will be looking to make an impact in this upcoming series, with the ODI format providing an excellent platform for players to showcase their skills.
