This afternoon, India announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy tournament. While Rohit Sharma has been named the captain, Shubman Gill will play as his deputy in the competition.
In a surprising move, India took a few bold decisions, ignoring Mohammed Siraj and Sanju Samson for the Champions Trophy. However, Jasprit Bumrah, who sustained a back injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, has been included in the squad.
Jasprit Bumrah To Undergo Scans On February 2
According to Times Of India (TOI), the experienced speedster will undergo scans on February 2. The BCCI will take a call on Bumrah's participation in the Champions Trophy after assessing his progress from the report.
Notably, Bumrah couldn't bowl in the second innings of the final BGT Test in Sydney after complaining of back problems. Later, It was revealed that it was a back swelling that could rule Bumrah out of the upcoming England series.
As per BCCI's selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar, Jasprit Bumrah will likely miss the first two ODIs against England. Therefore, India have included Harshit Rana as his backup for the home series.
India Drop Siraj; Pick Arshdeep As Bumrah, Shami's Deputy For Champions Trophy
Meanwhile, India preferred Arshdeep Singh over Mohammed Siraj for the Champions Trophy 2025. While Mohammed Shami found a place in the side, Arshdeep was picked due to his superior death-bowling skills in white-ball cricket. If Bumrah doesn't get fit in time, it will be interesting to see if India bring Siraj back as his replacement.
